Entrepreneurship and culture go hand in hand at the 89th TIF

Large and small businesses take part in this year’s edition

Concert tonight at 21:30 to mark the 100th anniversary of Mikis Theodorakis' birth

Industry-leading companies from sectors such as telecommunications, new technologies, and the automotive industry to energy, metallurgy, retail, and services are participating in the 89th TIF, creating together with hundreds of SMEs the business mosaic of this year’s event.

In particular, beyond the major business groups, the "Greece and Entrepreneurship" theme includes the participation of 44 Chambers of Commerce, under the umbrella of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece, with 351 companies in Pavilions 2 and 3. In parallel, the Thessaloniki Chamber of Tradesmen is participating with 51 of its member businesses in Pavilion 8.

Alongside entrepreneurship, the 89th TIF places special emphasis on culture. In this context, it pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikis Theodorakis with a grand tribute concert on the Music Events Live stage, under the YMCA Arch, at 21:30. The “Mikis Theodorakis” Orchestra will perform the immortal songs of the great and internationally renowned composer, with the voices of Dimitris Basis, Rita Antonopoulou, Sofia Papazoglou, and Angelos Theodorakis. Visitors can attend the concert free of charge with their TIF entrance ticket.

However, the “encounter” with Mikis Theodorakis does not stop there. In Pavilion 6, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the life of the composer, who was exiled during the dictatorship to the village of Zatouna in Gortynia (1968–69), his struggles against the junta, and the major musical works he composed there, inspired by the emblematic mountains of Arcadia. This is made possible through a historical documentary about him and Zatouna, as well as screenings from the Zatouna Digital Virtual Museum—the first digital museum dedicated to Mikis Theodorakis in Greece.

The Youth Band Battle - Stage Z music competition for young talent also continues today in the outdoor area between Pavilions 9 & 13, featuring the band Candyflip at 19:00, Multivision at 19:30, RiA and CO at 20:30, and Codasicks at 21:00.

One of the standout participants at the 89th TIF is the Ministry of National Defence, with its presence themed: "AGENDA 2030. Transition to a New Era. A Strong Greece." For the first time, the following are presented to the public: a 3D visualization of the multi-layered air defence system "Aegean Dome", a giant 3-meter UAV (drone), the first kamikaze drone made in Greece, and the first UAV helicopter. Also on display are flight simulators, the “Modern Fighter” interactive installation, active operational boats and vehicles, and a time-lapse build-up of the Belharra “Kimon” frigate.

Visitors can also experience incredible experiments, refractions, and optical "miracles" at Planet Physics – Museum of Experiments, located in Pavilion 10, Stand 29.

As part of JuniorLand, from 18:00 to 19:30, an impressive bubble show by "La Petite Marguerite" will be held at various locations around the fairgrounds, captivating both children and adults. From 19:00 to 20:00, the interactive show “Back to School” will take place in the open-air “TIF Gardens” area, marking the start of the new school year.

At 19:00, the Region of Western Greece welcomes visitors to Pavilion 6 to explore its rich culinary heritage as part of the "Flavors of Greece" theme.

Today, the Thessaloniki Automobile Club also held a press conference in view of the TIF RALLY, which will be held on September 13 and 14 as part of the 89th TIF. As stated by Dr. Kyriakos Pozrikidis, CEO of TIF-HELEXPO, the company has always supported the TIF Rally, one of the country’s longest-running and most thrilling races, born from and evolving alongside the Exhibition. This year, its 57th edition is dedicated to the memory of Tasos Kyrlagkitsis, a passionate motor racing enthusiast.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s screening of the “Chronos Machine” documentary titled “TIF. 100 Years from Ground Zero” deeply moved audiences. The documentary focused on two pivotal years in TIF’s history: 1925, when the exhibition body was founded, and 1926, when the first TIF was held.

Yesterday at Music Events Live, Pyx Lax brought their rock energy to the 89th TIF, energizing the audience.

The opening hours of the 89th TIF on weekdays are from 16:00 to 22:00.
